We’re a small accounting firm in downtown Walnut Creek that specializes in outsourced accounting and advisory services for nonprofits. We’re looking for a skilled Accounting Associate to join our team.

About the Position

Under general supervision, the Accounting Associate performs a variety of professional accounting work and advisory services for the firm’s clients. Primary accounting responsibilities include recording, reconciling, reviewing, and reporting financial data and records for assigned clients, as well as ensuring that all financial data are maintained consistently with established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Interacting with clients and coworkers in a courteous and professional manner

  • Preparing accurate financial reports and records by established deadlines

  • Examining financial documents and accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to generally accepted accounting procedures

  • Completing government forms and filings on behalf of clients

  • Helping to develop, implement, and document proper accounting processes and procedures for new clients

  • Processing payroll for assigned clients in an accurate and timely manner

  • Managing and processing employee benefits in accordance with compliance requirements and clients’ policies

  • Processing accounts payable and receivable in a timely manner and in accordance with clients’ established procedures

  • Collaborating with and providing assistance to coworkers

  • Updating information databases as needed

  • Performing general office duties (e.g., scanning, filing, shredding, etc.)

  • Driving to financial institutions and client locations

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Degree or advanced studies in Accounting or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures

  • 2 years of experience working as a Staff Accountant or Bookkeeper

  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting concepts

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and QuickBooks accounting software (both desktop and online versions)

Required Skills

  • Communicating clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing

  • Maintaining good client relations and providing excellent customer service

  • Listening and being receptive to the needs and feedback of clients and coworkers

  • Performing analytical and detailed work with numerical data and making arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately

  • Working independently from general instructions

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 – $80,000

  • Eligible for bonuses

  • 10 paid sick days

  • 10 paid vacation days (accrual increases based on years of service)
